According to the House of Representatives investigation is currently ongoing in the North East Development Commission over missing of #100 billion Naira.
Honourable Ndudi Elumelu who is the minority leader of the house moved a motion on Thursday to raise the matter on the floor of the house.
North East Development Commission was established in 2017 to handle the reconstruction and rehabilitation of the region which was affected by the insurgency.
Honourable Ndudi Elumelu while moving the motion in the floor of the house said 100 billion Naira given to the commission has disappeared with nothing to show.
He further accuse the Managing Director of the commission for awarding non existing contracts.
In his statement he said.
The N100 billion so far disbursed to the commission by the federal government is said to have vanished under a year without any visible impact on the refugees nor any infrastructural development credited to the name of the commission in the whole of the north-east,” Alkali said.
“The corrupt practices include high handedness by the managing director, Mohammed Goni Alkali, over inflation of contracts, awards of non existent contracts, massive contract splitting and flagrant disregard for the procurement laws in the award of contracts.
“There are allegations of how the minister of humanitarian affairs and disaster management, Sadiya Farouk, was said to have entered into an unholy deal with the managing director of the commission to illegally withdraw money for the purchase military vehicles without any recourse to the board.
“The act, which completely disregards the country’s procurement laws, must be seriously frowned at.”
The speaker Me Femi Gbajabiamila who put the motion to a vote and was later adopted by the house.
The probe was handed over to the house committee on finance and appropriation and NEDC, the panel is mandated to submit their report in 8 weeks.
This development comes days after the commencement of the NDDC probe which say Minister of Niger Delta affairs appear before the panel.
