The Nigerian Agency for Food drugs and Administration and Control ( NAFDAC ) in their on Friday says they have not given approval for any drugs to be use for treatment of Covid-19.
It was earlier reported by some newspaper that Bauchi State Governor Bala Mohammed had on Wednesday directed health workers in the state to use chloroquine and Zithromax for the treatment of COVID-19 patients in the state.
In the directive given to the frontline workers in the state by the Governor in government house Bauchi he said Our medical team is using their own ingenuity to use chloroquine and Zithromax to treat the patients, even though in some places, they said it is against the protocol.
And as a Governor I’ll be taking responsibility for that because I don’t want anyone to die.
Reacting to the directive the Director-General of NAFDAC, Prof. Mojisola Adeyeye, said the agency had not given its approval for the use of any product from any company or individual to cure COVID-19, she further said NAFDAC as an agency is concerned about reports on social and other media of drugs or vaccines to cure COVID 19.
As such the public is advised to adhere to the NCDC and WHO guidelines of handsanitiser, hand washing and use of face mask to protect themselves.
